Cicogna

The small village of Cicogna is in the heart of the Val Grande National Park and is known as its "little capital". It is located at the end of the paved road and is the starting point for several of the paths and nature trails that run through the park.

Cicogna is a charming hamlet made up of old stone buildings, which offers peace and tranquillity, thanks of its total lack of car traffic. Cars are parked at the entrance of the village, where the road ends. You can then explore its cobbled paths on foot. |

The village is perched on the south-eastern side of the mountain that divides the Pogallo and Val Grande valleys. The Pogallo and Val Grande rivers and valleys meet at the Casletto Bridge, just south-west of Cicogna, to form the San Bernardino River. The rivers have crystal clear natural pools, which are excellent for bathing and cooling off in the summer months. The most easily accessible is the San Bernardino, reached through a short path from the road just north of Rovegro. |

The Circolo ARCI serves as Cicogna's only bar and small restaurant. The nearest grocery stores and supermarkets are in Verbania (17km). A small national park information centre is normally open in Cicogna at weekends during peak summer months. |
